Sanity. That small, seemingly innocuous word. The Oxford American dictionary Dictionary defines it as "the ability to think and behave in a normal and rational manner". That sounds good, right? Well, apparently not.

I have recently come across quite a few people who claim to be "insane". What do they mean? Do they mean they lack "the ability to think and behave in a normal and rational manner"? Many of these self-proclaimed Insanites (AKA Insanitaries :P) are nice friendly people, who can act normal and rational. So, what do they mean?

Please add a comment. Tell me if you are insane or sane. And give your reasons, too. Why are you (in)asane? I look forward to your responses.

I, for one, am sane (of sound mind; not mad or mentally ill. It's derived from the latin, 'sanus', meaning 'healthy'). And I hope to keep my sanity far into my life.

tuo blogus bonus et magnus est! I think that's correct. Anyway, I am somewhat insane, at least by the world's standards.

Normal is just a setting on the dishwasher. I live. Period. I can cluck like a chicken and not have to worry about being normal. Nowhere in the Bible does it say, "thou shalt be normal."

Ha! I love my life...Cluck!

Thanks for the... creative comment. ;-) Um... my Latin's a bit rusty... would it be Tuum, since it's the dirct object?

I don't think so as it describes the subject. There is no direct object, as the adjectives describe blogus.

Nominative= N

Adj-N N Adj.-N Adj.-N
Tuo blogus bonus et magnus est.

Hey, can I put a link to this site on my blog?

Okay, I'll take your word for it... I never was good at declining those things.

Sure, go ahead. That would be awesome.

Sane? Insane? Is it merely the word, or the meaning behind it? There are several factors that have to come into play, before you cast judgment upon yourself, to be either. Insanity is a person that has mental inadequacy, "wrong in the head". I for one am not. But when I was younger I used to proclaim myself as insane. I have learned since, to rethink my status. Am I truly insane? I doubt it. I do have a sound mind and will strive to continue having one. But...people who know me, will be the first to admit that I am crazy, weird, random, and strange. So, I shall proclaim myself as crazy and step off my little soap box. *steps down*

Nice blog though, Van!

You think I have a mental inadequacy? ;)

I am insane. Sanity is normal, and I refuse to be normal.

^Yes, but since the majority of DIOMers say they are insane, wouldn't that make Insane, Normal? And therefore, people who are sane are the abnormal ones. Furthermore, since insanity is normal on DIOM and abnormal in Real Life, whether you are "insane" or sane, one way or the other you do have to be normal.

...Now I've confused myself. *makes mental note not to post comments on people's blogs after 1AM*

but here's GK Chesterton instead: To the insane man his insanity is quite prosaic, because it is quite true. A man who thinks himself a chicken is to himself as ordinary as a chicken. ... It is the homogeneity of his mind which makes him dull, and which makes him mad.

Um, so...this all means...that if you are truly insane, you won't think you are, which (sort of) means that if you profess insanity, you really aren't insane at all.

*yawns and shuts up* Insanitaries...hehehe...

And, oh yes, the actual question (this is getting far too long). I am quite sane, at least, I hope so, and I do not wish to be known as Insane. Even if singing the praises of this strange thing known as Insanity will higher one's social standing on a certain forum. :P

^Insanity itself, I mean, not the member known as such... and I think I'm taking this entirely too seriously, but really, insanity is overrated. haha.

*applauds* Very nice, -Van-. I quite enjoyed your rant. 0=)
Anyway, am I insane? Hm, I suppose it really depends on my mood. There are times I probably should be locked up, but most of the time I believe I'm pretty sane. Crazy? Of course. Random? Sure. Insane? No. Though it would probably be fun...

@Insanity: As Ithimien said, insanity seems to be quite normal on DioM. So if you think about it, aren't you the normal one, and I the abnormal one?

@ Ithilien: Wow... that's really... yeah. Totally. *Grins stupidly* ;)

@ Black Fire: Craziness and randomness are the spices of life. :-) And I wouldn't give them up for the world. Well, I might...

Hey ithilien, was that chicken thing directed at me, LOL?

I voted dinosaurs!!! I would say I'm insane, though I'm not an idiot (no matter how much time I spend on IioM). To me, when I say I'm insane, I mean I'm random, spontaneous, and hopefully fun. Insanity is fun. We should all partake.
